Disclaimers

We have all received them. Emails followed by a disclaimer at the end, informing us that this message is intended only for the use of the addressee(s) named herein…

Some find these disclaimers cute, others annoying, and most of us ignore them anyway.  Yet I am curious as to why they are placed at the end of the email.  If they are meant to protect the message from being read by unintended users, shouldn’t they be placed at the beginning of the email?
